When my child’s Amber necklace gets dirty, I wash it in the dishwasher. Is that okay?
No. It is NOT okay to wash your Amber necklace in the dishwasher. Please don’t.
Amber is a delicate fossil. There are so many things that will happen to your amber when in the dishwasher, including:
- Soaps and detergents will eat at the amber.
- A residue will build up a barrier on the amber.
- The cotton string the amber is strung on will weaken.
If you feel your amber is dirty, simply run it through your hands under plain, lukewarm water and let it dry on a soft towel. Don’t forget to put your amber back on once it is dry!
